Reitman to direct Kutcher & Portman in "Friends With Benefits."

Trio set for Paramount's untitled romantic comedy

Veteran producer and director Ivan Reitman will get back behind the camera in May to direct Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher in an untitled romantic comedy for Paramount Pictures.

Script was penned by Elizabeth Meriwether.

Par has already locked in a release date for the pic, which is set to open Jan. 7 -- a lucrative frame for femme-driven comedies.

Paramount is producing with Reitman's Montecito Picture Co., in association with Portman's shingle handsomecharliefilms and Kutcher's Katalyst. Cold Spring Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment are co-financing with Par.

Project's working title is "Friends With Benefits."

The logline is being kept under tight wraps, although storyline generally revolves around the ease with which men and women become sexually involved, but have a far more difficult time establishing emotional bonds.

"It's an issue ripe for discussion," Reitman told Daily Variety.

Reitman is producer, along with Montecito's Jeffrey Clifford and Joe Medjuck. Exec producers are Montecito's Tom Pollock, Portman and Spyglass Entertainment's Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jon Glickman. Montecito's Ali Bell will co-produce.

Reitman's directing credits include the "Ghostbuster" franchise -- he's readying "Ghostbusters 3" for Sony Pictures -- "Stripes" and "Dave." He's become a prolific producer via Montecito, and received his first Academy Award nomination for producing Paramount's "Up in the Air," directed by his son, Jason Reitman.

Portman is in theaters this fall with David Gordon Green's adventure-comedy "Your Highness," from Universal. She recently wrapped production on Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan," and also is set to star in Kenneth Branagh's "Thor."

Kutcher was most recently seen in Gary Marshall's "Valentine's Day," and will next be seen in Robert Luketic's action-comedy "Killers" opposite Katherine Heigl. Lionsgate opens "Killers" June 4.

Portman and Kutcher are repped by CAA.

MPAA Ratings: 'Your Highness' rated R

The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Rating Administration released their weekly bulletin, which included new ratings for Splice, Your Highness and Secretariat.

Medieval comedy Your Highness was rated R for "strong crude and sexual content, pervasive language, nudity, violence and some drug use." The Universal Pictures release, directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express), follows James Franco and Danny McBride as a pair of princes tasked with completing a quest to save their father's kingdom. Zooey Deschanel and Natalie Portman also appear. Your Highness is set to open on Oct. 1.

13 Child Stars Who Made It

Achieving fame at a younf age can be confusing -- and even dangerous. But as actors such as Neil Patrick Harris, Natalie Portman, Ron Howard, Anna Paquin and more have proved, it can also make you stronger.

NATALIE PORTMAN
Spotted in a Long Island pizza parlor at age 11 by a modeling rep, Portman landed the role of an assassin's sad-eyed sidekick in 1994's The Professional one year later. Unlike most of her Hollywood peers, Portman (who uses a stage name to protect her family from media attention) took a break from acting — to study psychology at Harvard. She says her parents keep her grounded. ''I value my private life and security way more than getting parts by flashing my boobs on some magazine or being a sex symbol in films,'' she told EW in 2000. —Chris Nashawaty

Kristen Stewart: Guess Who Gets Her Starstruck?

Kristen Stewart says she doesn't get starstruck very often, but at this year's Oscars she was left speechless not once, but twice.

So who got Ms. Stewart flustered? First up, an Academy Award winner...Kate Winslet. Stewart says when I ask who she was most excited to meet on the big night. "She's one of my favorite actresses. I've seen her around at things but I never met her."

So how did Stewart react? She opens her eyes real wide and makes a gulping noise. "Her presence made me do that," the Twilight starlet says. "But it was really cool. She was great."

After the show, she was introduced to Natalie Portman at the Governor's Ball.

"I didn't want to be in the room anymore," Stewart says. "I literally wanted to eat my own head with a fork and knife."

Guess it's a good thing Winslet and Portman weren't at the Hollywood premiere of The Runaways.

Portman to star in, produce "Best Buds"

Vendome backing road-trip comedy

Natalie Portman is in final negotiations to topline and produce road-trip comedy "Best Buds" through her Handsomecharlie banner, with Vendome Pictures fully financing.

Vendome's CEO Philippe Rousselet will produce along with Portman.

Project, based on Jamie Denbo's script, centers on a woman who's on the verge of a complete nervous breakdown on the eve of her wedding. To save herself, she goes on a road trip to San Diego with two best friends, relying on a combo of marijuana and the bonds of their decades-long friendship.

Portman and Rousselet are looking for a filmmaker to direct the project.

Tracy Underwood, Vendome's exec VP, brought the project for the company.

Portman will be seen this fall in director David Gordon Green's fantasy-comedy "Your Highness."

She recently wrapped production on Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan," a thriller set in the world of ballet, and will soon begin production on Kenneth Branagh's comicbook pic "Thor."

She'll also be seen in Spencer Susser's "Hesher," which she produced, and Don Roos' "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits," which she exec produced.

Denbo's credits include writing and starring in the Showtime pilot "Ronna and Beverly."

Vendome is producing and fully financing the upcoming "Source Code," starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and "Larry Crowne," starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.

Portman's involvement with "Best Buds" was first reported on the Pajiba.com site.
